Education Committee Mission Statement

To enhance the target archery experience for all club members through instructional classes, programs, workshops, and a video library to assist all styles and levels of archers in improving their overall knowledge of archery and equipment, whether it be for recreational or competitive purposes.

"Archery Fundamentals" PowerPoint

This presentation was developed by our Club's Education and Training Committee as a recommendation for new archers as well as reference material for intermediate or experienced archers.

The way you position your arms, back, head and legs impacts how well you shoot archery. Improving your performance in the sport of Target Archery is all about “consistency”. Information in this presentation is not the only way of doing things. However, it is a “good starting point” and follows the path of instruction as developed by USA Archery’s National Training System (NTS). The purpose is to provide recommended shooting fundamentals to assist beginning archers in their success and enjoyment of the sport. Individuals may find the need to modify NTS recommended form to adapt to their own physical limitations and comfortable shooting style.

Archery Classes

The OTOW Archery Club has developed a set of education classes to assist all levels of archers, from beginner through intermediate to experienced, in improving their overall knowledge of target archery, the equipment required to participate, when to buy your own equipment and how to properly maintain and upgrade your own equipment as well as tuning your own bows.

All classes will be held in the Hobby Building, Event Room, unless otherwise notified.  Descriptions of classes offered by the Club, PowerPoints to be used and the schedule for each are as follows:

Archery Basics 101 Class    (Pre-Registration Required  /  Duration: 2 hours)

This is the perfect class for those Club members who are brand new or relatively new to the sport of Target Archery.  It provides an overview of our OTOW Archery Club, training available in the area, shooting on the Range and equipment availability.  It will expand on the different avenues Archery has to offer as well as what types of equipment might be required for each.  The class will provide insight and direction on buying your own equipment and the options available, including when to buy, what to buy, and help in determining the equipment that is right for you.  Finally, find out what your next steps should be to improve your Archery skills and continue your journey in the sport.  There will also be plenty of time to ask all your questions.  We look forward to seeing you there.

This is a comprehensive class providing an overview of setting up and 'tuning' a Recurve Bare Bow all the way up to an Olympic Style Recurve Bow.  The class covers all aspects of  Recurve Bows from top to bottom.

This class is well suited to the beginner to intermediate archer interested in shooting a Recurve Bare Bow, an Olympic Recurve Bow or transitioning from Bare Bow into the more elaborate Olympic Recurve. All aspects of set up, tuning and adjustments will be covered. The very important topics of Bow sizing, measurements and initial set up will be presented. We will talk ‘Beyond the Bow’ getting into detail about accessories, arrows, what/when to buy and the costs associated with the various components as well as how to get some help, if you want to progress more quickly in archery.
