Archer Achievement Program

We’re excited to introduce the OTOW Archery Club’s Archer Achievement Program, designed to celebrate the progress and accomplishments of our members as they develop their archery skills. Like any sport that relies on precision and technique, improvement in archery is best measured through consistent and accurate scoring.

To start, the program will focus on Barebow Recurve and Olympic Recurve shooting at 10, 15, and 20 yards. Each achievement shoot will consist of 10 ends of 3 arrows, using a 40 cm multicolor Vegas target.

Through this program, participants will strengthen several key skills:

  • Mastering proper shooting technique
  • Learning how to score arrows and record results accurately
  • Developing focus and pacing—emphasizing precision over shooting speed

This program isn’t just about scores—it’s about tracking your improvement, setting personal goals, and enjoying the rewarding journey of becoming a more skilled and confident archer.

Shooting Procedure

*Note - All shoots utilize tournament format and scoring

Step 1 - Registration

  • Sign in at the range entrance podium
  • Additionally, register on the Achievement Shoot signup sheet, indicating your discipline (Barebow or Olympic recurve) and shooting distance
  • For each shoot you will receive a scorecard. Put your name, discipline, and shooting yardage on it and give to the Monitor. They will return it to you once target assignments have been made
  • You will be given a target face to use

We will be using the Vegas (40cm) multi-color 10-ring target for these shoots. 
The shoot will consist of 3 arrows, 10 ends for a total of 30 arrows.

Step 2 - Getting Set Up

After all archers have registered, you will be given your scoresheet with target assignments.
The Monitor will let you know when to hang your target.

Step 3 - Scoring

Scoring will be X 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1 Record a miss as an "M".
Record the values from high to low for the three arrows.
Total the arrows for that end. After the 2nd and subsequent ends total the cumulative score.

  • For each shooting box, one archer will call the scores, the other will record them, then you will trade off this responsibility during the shoot
  • After the scores are recorded the archers may pull their arrows
  • DO NOT touch the arrows or target until all arrows are scored and recorded
  • Both archers should agree on any "line" calls. If agreement is not achieved, call a Monitor to make the call

Step 4 - At Completion of the Shoot

At the end of the shoot, scorecards are to be signed by both archers and returned to the monitor.
Remove your target face and turn it in at the Monitor position.

Step 5 - Afterward

Celebrate your ranking level – you’ve aimed high and achieved!
